Cole slept like the dead. He hadn't ever needed it before, but humanity on top of injuries and sex had worn him out quite effectively.

But it was much, much later, early the next morning, that there was a soft knock on the door. "Dorian? It's Nadezhda."

"It would be unbelievably uncomfortable." Dorian kept a wide smile, his grey eyes brightening. "You said you wanted to be with me - and not that you would stay. I like it."

"I want to be with you and stay with you." He said it clearly, so there were no misunderstandings.

"But I don't want to be tied to you. That wouldn't be comfortable."

"Well ... then we will stick to the first two, and not the last." Dorian stroked his pale cheek, his grey eyes warming. "Deal?"

"That's a good idea. Though some people like tying up their lovers. The Iron Bull does." He reached up to catch Dorian's hand and hold it to his cheek.

"While that does sound amusing .... I don't think we are quite to that level yet, Cole." He kept his hand on Cole's cheek, tenderly tracing his jaw with his thumb.

"To what level?" He buried in again, kissing Dorian's stomach a couple of times.

"Mmm ... to the sexual prowess level where one or the other of us could be tied down on a bed while the other teases us with their hands and mouth." Dorian sighed at those kisses, sliding his hand up and down Cole's angular cheeks, down his pale through, and back again. "We'll work up to it. Eventually. No rush."

"All right." He was perfectly happy with that explanation and with waiting. Time still had a limited meaning to him. "No rush."

He pressed a couple more kisses, moving to linger on a tiny bruise that might have come from bumping into a bookshelf.

"That's right - no rush." He made a quiet, pleased noise, then winced a little as Cole's lips brushed against the bruise he had in fact gotten from bumping into one of the bookcases. He stroked Cole's hair again, his tone a quietly amused, "Kissing and making it better?"

"Yes." That was exactly what he was doing, kissing it better. "Kisses make things hurt less, because kisses show that someone cares about the hurt."

He kisses his navel, just because it's there. "I have a navel, but only because Cole did."

"Mmmm, well I am glad that you care about my hurt enough to kiss my boo-boos, although I do admit you are the first to do so." It was just so uniquely ... Cole, whimsical except completely logical. He tilted down enough to kiss the top of Cole's head, his stomach muscles shifting as he did so.

"Well that is interesting... I wonder what you don't have. I do know you have all the parts that matter..."

Cole watched that shift of muscles closely. His body made the same motions. He didn't know if he had all the same muscles, though.

"You once asked me why I bled. I bleed because that's what things in this world do when they're hurt. If I don't have something... I don't know I should have it, I think."

The way that Cole moved? Dorian knew he had all these muscles, and probably more besides.

"Huh ... can you make yourself develop it, if you find you need it?" Dorian tilted his head. "Like if you had made yourself without thumbs - could you image thumbs on your hands?"

"Could you?"

Cole always answered Dorian's questions like that with the point that his body was still a body. It was still real. He couldn't just imagine it different. It was as it was, he didn't choose it.

"I am ... afraid I cannot." Dorian chortled softly. "So I suppose my question is moot. My apologies, Cole."

"My body is what it is. Just like yours." He reached up and tweaked Dorian's nose, like Dorian did to him earlier, smiling.

Dorian watched Cole, that smile triggering even wider before he laughed as Cole tweaked his nose. "Fair enough, our bodies are similar -- even though is mine clearly superior."

"Is it? Is that because you're more handsome than me?" He moved to brush a finger over Dorian's mustache, smoothing over it.

Dorian's lips parted slightly, before he spoke quietly, his voice deepening, "Yes ... I am most definitely more handsome than you."

Cole nodded, not in the slightest upset about this fact. It was just a fact, how they both turned out. "And I'm taller." Just another fact.

Dorian's smile widened, and he leaned forward to sneak a kiss. "Yes you are, and I like that."

Sneak is probably the wrong word, but Cole turned up into it with a soft sound of contentment. "You're much more educated. Which means you can read to me too."

Well, true, but he did like the word sneak. Stole? No, Cole was giving his mouth up willingly. Perhaps just enjoyed ... he hummed, leaning back. "I can also teach you how to read, if you like."

"I know how to read. But it's difficult and slow. The pages say one thing and the ink says another."

Which possibly explained his dislike for old books.

"Huh ... I never thought of getting feelings from books, but I suppose it is entirely possible. In more ways than one, at that."

He pressed a kiss to Cole's nose. "How could I like you more?"
